Rising country star to play Sept. 7 in Edgerton on the heels of a #1 hit, tour with Luke Bryan
We’re going to turn the streets of downtown Edgerton into one big party on Friday, Sept. 7 as Chilimania 2018 weekend kicks off with Country Edge, an outdoor concert headlined by rising country music star Morgan Wallen.
Wallen and his #1 country radio hit, “Up Down” featuring Florida Georgia Line, have been all over radio and social media this summer, with its twangy hook that gets stuck in your head for days on end.
Morgan Wallen first rose to prominence a few years ago when he appeared on Season 6 of NBC’s “The Voice.” He comes to downtown Edgerton fresh off a summer filled with appearances at large country-music festivals as well as performing to sold-out crowds as an opening act on superstar Luke Bryan’s “What Makes You Country” summer tour.
“This is the show of the summer in all of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois,” said Country Edge co-organizer Casey Schmeling. “Morgan is one of the hottest acts in Nashville and beyond, and we are so proud to be bringing him here to Edgerton. This will be a night that a lot of people will remember fondly for a long time!”
Rounding out the 2018 lineup are Saving Savannah, a dynamite Milwaukee-based act playing “Country music as it should be”; and A Tad of Sarahcha, an Edgerton-based duo playing all your favorite Country tunes accompanied by another local act, TheMadTadders.
What is Country Edge?
Now in its third year, Chilimania presents Country Edge 2018 on Friday, Sept. 7. Held on the Chilimania grounds, the only chili you’ll find will be for sale from our food vendors. What you will find is a lineup full of some of the finest local, regional and national Country music acts kicking off the Chilimania weekend on our Main Stage.
“Country Edge was created as a way to cater to all the Country music fans in southern Wisconsin,” Schmeling said. “For years we got requests to book Country acts, but it was difficult to mix them into our rock-based lineup. We decided to dedicate a separate event specifically for the Country crowd.”
In just a few short years, Country Edge has gained the reputation for bringing big-time talent to small-town Edgerton. The lineup routinely features both Nashville up-and-comers and hitmakers alike, supported by some of the finest regional talent from Wisconsin and beyond.
For instance, Country Edge 2017 featured country star Keith Anderson, best known for his top-10 song “Pickin’ Wildflowers.” He was supported by local party band Pink Houses, fronted by Edgerton dentist and Chilimania co-founder Dr. Tom Reitz.
What is Chilimania?
Since 1990, the Chilimania festival has been held annually on the Saturday after Labor Day in beautiful downtown, Edgerton, Wisconsin. Started as a Jaycees fundraiser, the festival grew so much over the years that it was eventually spun off into its own 501(c)3 organization, Chilimania, Inc.
Chilimania now spans two days in early September: a Friday-night country music concert and street party known as Country Edge, followed all day on Saturday by the main event, Chilimania, including the Chili Chase 5K/10K and the Best Bloody Mary contest. The 2018 dates are Sept. 7-8.
Chilimania’s mission is to promote the Edgerton business community, social responsibility, and to raise funds to support the education of our youth. Each spring, proceeds from the previous year’s festival fund scholarships to graduating Edgerton High School seniors.
In May 2018, Chilimania awarded seven scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. The organization also made more than $5,000 in donations to a wide variety of community-based organizations and projects. Thanks to everyone who supports Chilimania for helping us help the community!
